Bridal Makeup: Glam Makeup vs. Natural Makeup
Updated: Nov 18
Most brides fall somewhere in the middle of wanting a look that that appears fairly natural, but still glam enough to makes their eyes, bone structure, and lips pop in photos. But if you’re someone who wants as natural as possible, or completely glammed up, no worries. My team is trained to do a little bit of everything! We always suggest brides to bring a few photos of makeup looks they love as well as a photo of their everyday/go-to look that they’ve done on themselves. This helps us to see what looks you’re comfortable with as well as what exactly you want to look like on your big day!
We’ll then compare the difference between the glammed-up photos and your day-to-day look. Understanding how much coverage you’re hoping for with you wedding day look is what we focus on first. It’s important to start here, because we can also go over whether you want to do airbrush or traditional foundation! Next is the eyes. Do you want a shimmer or a matte look? If you want false lashes, what size and look is your favorite? We will also go over whether you want winged or smoked out eyeliner, and any other details about the looks you bring in with your photos! Something I always tell my clients to keep in mind is that photos tend to make it look like you’re wearing 20-30% less makeup than what you’re seeing in person— so for my brides who love the look of darker makeup in photos, we usually go a bit heavier!
For my clients on the fence about wearing a more natural application or going for more of a glam look, don’t fret. I’d be more than happy to help you figure out the perfect look for you on your special day. At the trial, I’ll begin with a more natural look, take a few photos, and then build it up to a more glamorous look. This allows them to see what aspects of each look they like, or if they prefer one more than the other altogether. Don’t worry ladies, there’s no such thing as a traditional bridal look that you have to go for or achieve! I’ve had clients who just hired me to do a bit of concealer over their problem areas, brow mascara, a hint of shimmer on the lid, and a nude lip on their wedding day. I’ve also had clients who love a good glittery cut crease, paired with full lashes, and a sculpted contour. As trained makeup artists, my team and I have the tools and education to make your makeup dreams come true, and the goal is simply to make you feel like the best version of yourself!

After the bride and I have had a thorough consultation and it’s finally wedding day, I always begin with a slightly conservative approach as I’m creating the look we’ve decided on. I’ll usually stop and check in with the bride at certain points of the makeup application— for example, once I’ve highlighted, contoured, and added blush. Letting them peek at what I’ve done so far gives them the chance to tell me if they want to add or change anything about the look. I’ll do this again after applying lashes to make sure they’re the size and fullness they love. At the end of every appointment, I hand the mirror to my clients and have them make sure everything is to their liking, and then if necessary, make adjustments according to their requests. This is when I also like to take pictures of the finished look to show the bride how it appears on photographs, just another precaution I take for any last-minute changes she may want.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that the bride feels beautiful and confident in the look she has chosen. Let me or any member of my team know if at any point you want to change something about your look. It’s YOUR wedding day, and your satisfaction is our top priority. Whether it’s full glam, a natural look, or somewhere in between, any bride deserves to feel and look her best on her wedding day! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email! I’d LOVE to chat with you!
